Scott founded (along with David Gills) New Life Baptist Church, and then served as pastor for over 15 years. When it was time to turn the urban church over to local leadership, Scott was faced with a decision. Should go out to the projects again and start another church? or use his experience and ministerial skills to strengthen urban churches already in exsistance. Reviewing the hardships of his previous years of ministry, he developed a burden to be a help and encouragement to those on the front lines of urban ministry. The needs and pressures are great, but the resources are few.
It is quite common for a foriegn missionary to labor for decades to establish a church with a goal of turnimg it over to local leadership. Then, often the missionary invests his time in: developing leadership, encouraging established churches, and providing strategic resources. This is the direction that Scott felt led to go and Reconciliation Resource Ministries was born. Since it is on this side of the ocean, some have had a hard time understanding the concept.
Scott is actively involved in discipling future urban leaders. He has a desire to encourage established urban leaders and endeavors to provide and empower them with the necessary resources to be the center of hope and help in their community. Scott offers free consulting and is ready to provide "reinforcements" when needed. Tthat may be helping with a special activity or preaching/teaching (without charge to churches in need) when needed.
